The ferry crossing
Two main car-ferry operators, Raja Ferry and Seatran, run from Don Sak to Koh Samui throughout the day; crossings take about 1–1.5 hours and land at Lipa Noi or Nathon on Samui's west coast. Foot passengers buy tickets at the pier. Our car can drop you at the terminal, or – for a one-way transfer all the way to your hotel – the vehicle can board the ferry; ask when booking.
The drive south
- The route follows Highway 4 (Phetkasem) south past Pranburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon, then Highway 41 towards Surat Thani.
- There are good service stops at Bang Saphan and Chumphon.
- Leave Hua Hin by early morning to catch an afternoon ferry with daylight to spare.
- Want a break? Spend a night at Chumphon or Surat Thani and cross the next morning.
Going on to Phangan or Tao
From Samui, boats run onward to Koh Phangan (about 30 minutes) and Koh Tao (1.5–2 hours). Many travellers do the loop the other way: Hua Hin to Koh Tao via Chumphon, then island-hop to Samui and fly out from Samui Airport. See Hua Hin to Koh Tao.
