Don Mueang Airport to Hua Hin

Guide

Don Mueang Airport to Hua Hin

Don Mueang (DMK) is Bangkok's low-cost airport, used by AirAsia, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air. It sits north of the city, so the road to Hua Hin – about 230 km – crosses Bangkok first. A pre-booked private taxi takes about 3.5 hours and costs from ฿1,600 per car. Buses and trains are cheaper but need a transfer in the city.

Terminals and meeting point

  • Terminal 1 handles international flights, Terminal 2 domestic. Tell us which one when you book.
  • Your driver waits at the arrivals exit of your terminal with a name sign.
  • Low-cost carriers often change times; we follow the actual landing, so a delay is not a problem.

The route

From Don Mueang the car takes the elevated tollway south, joins Rama II and then Phetkasem Road past Samut Songkhram, Phetchaburi and Cha-am. Avoiding the centre is the trick: at rush hour (7–9 am and 4–7 pm) the city section alone can add an hour.

Train fans: the Red Line link

Don Mueang has its own SRT Red Line station connected to the terminal by a walkway. It runs to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, where some southbound trains to Hua Hin depart. It works best by day with light luggage; check the State Railway timetable, since departures to Hua Hin are limited.

Bags, groups and golf clubs

Low-cost flyers often travel light, but families and golfers don't. A sedan takes three people with three bags; an SUV fits golf bags; the VIP van seats up to ten. Prices are per car, so a group of six often pays less each than taking the bus.
